Greek Tzatziki Dip

This dip is very versatile.  It is delicious when used: as a dip for veggies or chips, as a marinade for fish or chicken, or as a sauce on sandwiches or wraps.  Do yourself a favor and make it a few days before using to really give the flavors time to meld.  Also, you may use garlic salt instead of using real garlic (some people don't like getting pieces of garlic in their food).

Caffeine Is Being Added to Gum, Foods and Drinks

What do you think about this? Have you been seeing how caffeine in these items is affecting kids? It's been all over TV, but here are some facts: http://www.stonehearthnewsletters.com/caffeine-targeted-by-fda/updates/

A quote: "One pack of this gum is like having four cups of coffee in your pocket. Caffeine is even being added to jelly beans, marshmallows, sunflower seeds and other snacks for its stimulant effect.
Meanwhile, “energy drinks” with caffeine are being aggressively marketed, including to young people. An instant oatmeal on the market boasts that one serving has as much caffeine as a cup of coffee, and then there are similar products, such as a so-called “wired” waffle and “wired” syrup with added caffeine."

By the way, we have the book, Buzzed, but it is checked out, so you will need to place a hold if you want to read it.

Manage Chronic Pain with Diet, Self-Care, and Exercise

Treading Thursday

BLR featured class: Treading
I'm going to make mine "Treading Tuesday"...   It just sounds better.  lol

If you've ever visited The Biggest Loser Resort then you know that Thursday's are infamous for one thing - TREADING. If you have yet to visit us, allow us to explain what Treading is. Treading is a high intensity, cardio focused, fat blasting class taught every week on Thursday afternoons. Our guests choose the cardio machine of their choice, be it a treadmill, elliptical, spin bike, or Jacob's Ladder, and participate in an intense, non-stop, 40-minute workout; sometimes longer depending on what kind of mood the trainer teaching might be in. Of course we're joking, but we've seen this happen.

Our trainers pride themselves on pushing our guests to the next level, and guiding them toward personal achievements they never knew possible.

We hear the same question from many of our departing guests, "How does Treading class go again? I want to do this at home!" Well, we are more than happy to oblige. Here's how Treading happens at The Biggest Loser Resort.
Treading

(40-minutes High Intensity)

  • 5 minute warm-up
  • 5 minutes as hard as you can go
  • 5 minute recovery
  • 4 minutes as hard as you can go
  • 4 minute recovery
  • 3 minutes as hard as you can go
  • 3 minute recovery
  • 2 minutes as hard as you can go
  • 2 minute recovery
  • 1 minute as hard as you can go
  • 1 minute recovery
  • 5 minute cool down

And always remember, you can do ANYTHING for 5-minutes!!!

Happy Treading!

Walking @ the Seymour Library

Remember this one from a few years ago?
Walking @ the Library
4.5 times around the Seymour Library block = 1 mile
Go around the outside edges of this block, cutting along the inside of the chiller on the southwest corner.
11.1 times around the Seymour Library upstairs "circle" = 1 mile
To follow the indoor "circle" track, at the top of the stairs turn in either direction and go around the outside aisles by the walls, including out by the glass windows overlooking Second Street, but NOT including the Local History area, Lab, Classroom or Teen Room. Some staff have been enjoying this path the past few weeks. If you have questions, ask Becky, Roger or Monica.

Kim found this article about the benefits of cocnut oil for Alzheimer's and other diseases.

The research isn't complete as to whether this works all the time or some of the the time. You might find the preliminary results interesting.
