Soup for Weight Loss
I found an article this morning about eating soup and losing weight.
http://www.suite101.com/content/soup-for-weight-loss-a81178
If you eat solid food and drink water separately, the water passes through your stomach without a pause. It doesn't contribute to feeling full.
However, if you combine food and water (soup), the water stays in the stomach with the solid food and makes you feel full for up to an extra hour and a half.
Anyone got a good homemade soup recipe?

Mix and match fruit & veggies recipe site (from CDC)
The mix and match fruit & veggies recipe site (from CDC) mentioned in today's Friday Facts has some really good recipes.

The other part of the post

is kind of interesting as well ... unlike those that say half a small apple or half a banana is a serving! This one is based on age and gender.-posted by Charlotte

Walk Indiana
There is a new IN-Shape Indiana program beginning--Walk Indiana.
It looks like someone is walking between cities in Indiana from north to south. We are to join in by walking so many steps each day total, and it really isn't a whole lot. Look at this link: http://view.exacttarget.com/?j=fe6415787160027c7416&m=fe7115707467017e7414&ls=fdf813717367007a7415717d&l=fe9517777464007e7d&s=fe3215747d640779751273&jb=ffcf14&ju=fe23157973600c7d701d72&r=0.
A pedometer REALLY does help me walk more each day. Try one!

Fresh Vegetables
It is my opinion that most Americans, when they eat vegetables, make boring ones. At least my mother did. Therefore, I have no childhood memories of loving vegetables- except asparagus. (I'll tell you why in a minute.)
When I spent a year in Minnesota, I learned to love beets. Hated them as a child, but in Minnesota, we picked them fresh out of iron-rich ground and cooked them in Harvard sauce.
My next love-of-vegetables came when I visited Israel. Wow! Spinach quiche, salads for breakfast, falafel in the marketplace, and some kind of veggie combo with a super sauce on it. I ate everything that wasn't nailed down and still lost four pounds during the 10 - day trip. (Might have had something to do with walking several miles a day, but I'm doing vegetables here.)
Why do these vegetable events stand out in my mind? Each one had to do with vegetables that are picked ripe and spend no time in transport or warehouse. The asparagus was one of my favorite events as a child. My dad would put my brother and me in the back seat of the car and drive slowly down country roads. It was our job to watch either side of the road and spot the asparagus growing in the fence rows. Talk about fresh - and free to boot!
I've got the gardens and farmer's market. Now to discover the sauce recipes.
